Import an XMind file into HMind on desktop

XMind import is available in the HMind desktop app. Keep your original file: imported maps may not retain every visual or supporting element.

Import your file

  1. 01

Open HMind on macOS or Windows.

  2. 02

Choose the XMind import action and select an .xmind file.

  3. 03

Open the new map and review its branches and relationships.

  4. 04

The imported map is added as a new document. Export it as a .hmind file if you want a standalone backup.

What the import brings across

HMind reads the map topics and supported relationships from the selected sheet and creates a new map. Import is free and does not require an account.

What to check before you rely on the result

  • Only the first sheet in a multi-sheet file is imported.
  • Older XMind files that use the legacy XML format are not supported; the importer expects the modern .xmind archive with content.json.
  • Images, notes, styles, markers, links, summaries and detached topics may be omitted. Check the original file if those details matter.
  • Keep the original XMind file as a backup.

After import

Compare the new map with the original, especially if it contains multiple sheets or visual styling. Import creates a separate HMind document; it does not change your source file.
